Listen to Your Heart: The Energy of Emotions

February is Heart Awareness Month, and it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on the powerful connection between your heart, your emotions, and your overall health.

Did you know that one in every four deaths is related to heart disease? While lifestyle and genetics matter, I believe there is another important piece of the puzzle—our emotional and energetic health.

Everything begins within us before it ever shows up in the physical body.

Your Thoughts and Feelings Are Energy

Everything is energy—including your thoughts, emotions, and feelings.

You can’t see them, but you experience them every day. So where do they go?

They live in your energy field—the space around and within your body that holds emotional and mental experiences. Every experience you have creates an energetic imprint. Sometimes that energy moves through and releases. Other times, it stays.

And when we don’t want to feel something, we store it.

Nothing bypasses the heart.

Every thought you think creates a feeling. Every feeling passes through the heart first. The heart then decides where that energy will be stored in the body.

How Experiences Leave Their Mark

Think about a joyful moment—seeing your child, grandchild, or someone you love. Your mind creates a loving thought, then it creates an emotion and your body feels the emotion. Your heart responds. You feel warmth, happiness, or even a flutter in your chest.

That energy moves through you and becomes a feel-good memory stored in your energetic field, and it will be recalled the next time you have a joyful experience. Your body will remember this feeling and you will have this experience all over again and the heart feels amazing!

Now think about a painful moment—betrayal, hurt, disappointment, or loss. Those emotions are stronger and heavier. They also pass through the heart, but they often linger.

When emotions aren’t processed, the body remembers them. And every time something similar happens, the body recalls that stored experience. These unprocessed feelings and emotions place stress on the heart and it will eventually become weak and take on an illness.

Emotional Patterns and Heart Health

Over time, unresolved emotions can show up as physical symptoms in the heart, including:

  • Holding onto unforgiveness

  • Betraying yourself or feeling betrayed by others

  • Feeling blocked or stuck in life

  • Lack of self-love

  • Difficulty giving or receiving love

  • Avoiding emotions instead of facing them

When feelings are ignored long enough, the body eventually speaks louder to get our attention.

An Invitation to Look Within

This month, I invite you to gently look inside your heart.

Ask yourself:
What am I still holding onto?
What have I avoided feeling?
Where have I been hard on myself?
Who do I need to forgive—including myself?

If you are feeling well, think about someone you love who may be struggling. Awareness is the first step toward healing.

Your heart wants to heal.
You don’t have to do it alone.
